LOGISTICS AND PROPERTY ACCOUNTABILITY
The battalion’s logistics team handled all the logistical challenges inherent in the movement and tracking of nearly 342,000 tons of critical replacement parts and time sensitive infrastructure materials to over 32 locations spanning the entire country of Iraq supporting over 95,000 MNF-I customers across the Iraqi Theater of Operations. The battalion S4 took on the unique challenge of providing all classes of supply to the battalion, as well as deploying, sustaining, and redeploying 18 Coalition Military Network (CMN) terminals used to extend critical communications to disadvantaged joint and coalition forces located on austere operating bases throughout the battle space. These customers included forces from the countries of Georgia, Poland, Romania and Korea, and several Multi-National Security Transition Command –Iraq and MNF-I / MNC-I elements.
The S4’s greatest contribution was its expert management of the process for acquiring, contracting, and delivering the equipment and material used to support a variety of communications infrastructure expansion projects on 14 of the largest operating bases in Iraq. In less than one year, the battalion processed over 200 Purchase Request and Commitment packets worth more than $21 million dollars for the purchase of all types of network support material. Each of these material procurement requests were meticulously handled from requirement development to product delivery for the benefit of improving the most complex military communications network in history. The Property Book Office joined the effort by locating and negotiating the lateral transfer of over $3.2 million dollars in vehicles, construction equipment, office trailers, and generators from other units in theater. The materials replaced battle damaged equipment and supported the emerging communications requirements of joint and coalition forces located on operating bases throughout the ITO.
