LTC Linda Jantzen was born in Novato, California into an Air Force family, and graduated from Grand Forks Central High School in North Dakota. She enlisted in the Army Reserve as a Combat Medic in 1983. In 1988 she graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the US Army Signal Corps.
Her first assignment as an officer was Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer in 122nd Signal Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Casey, Korea. In 1990 she was assigned to 10th Signal Battalion, 10th Mountain Division at Ft Drum, NY, and soon after that she was temporarily assigned to 26th Signal Battalion, 93rd Signal Brigade, VII Corps in Saudi Arabia and Iraq for the duration of the Gulf War. Upon returning to Ft Drum, she served as 10th Mountain Division Signal Plans Officer, and then the 10th Signal Battalion Maintenance Officer. In 1993 she deployed with 10th Signal Battalion as the S-1 to Mogadishu, Somalia during Operation Restore Hope. In 1994, LTC Jantzen was assigned to Hohenfels, Germany as Combat Maneuver Training Center (CMTC) Signal Officer. She did a follow-on tour at Darmstadt, Germany, first as 22nd Signal Brigade S-3 Training Officer, then Commanded, HHC, 440th Signal Battalion in Bosnia and Croatia during Operation Joint Endeavor in 1996. In 2000, LTC Jantzen was assigned to Ft Hood, TX as 3rd Signal Brigade S-3 Operations Officer and then Brigade S-3. In 2003 she became the Executive Officer, 13th Signal Battalion, and deployed with the 1st Cavalry Division in Operation Iraqi Freedom 2. Upon her return from deployment, she moved to Washington DC and served as an Army Congressional Fellow in the office of Senator Mikulski of Maryland, followed by Department of the Army Staff, Chief of Legislative Liaison, the Pentagon.
LTC Jantzen has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and a Master of Arts degree in Telecommunications from Michigan State University. She is a graduate of the Signal Officer Basic and Advanced Course, and the Command and General Staff College.
LTC Jantzen’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3 awards), Army Commendation Medal (6 awards), Army Achievement Medal (2 awards), Parachutist Badge, and the Air Assault Badge,.
