Detachment 40, the 40th ESB’s platoon comprised of two JNNs, five CPNs, and two Phoenix satellite terminals, provided ARCENT with their only tactical communications capability to support its Early Entry Command Post and subordinate elements during contingency operations. The Detachment was the first ever Joint Network Transport Capability (JNTC) to support a theater level headquarters and they did a magnificent job despite no precedent to guide them. Detachment 40 supported three major ARCENT exercises and numerous smaller training events; deployed a CPN to Bahrain in support of 11th Air Defense Artillery Brigade; and deployed with the 37th Brigade Combat Team Signal Company to Afghanistan in support of Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan (CSTC-A).
