The battalion electronic maintenance (EMS) team had a tremendous impact on
the reliability of the communications network by expertly resolving both electronic and power related outages encountered at
our facilities across Iraq. The team successfully performed over 82 maintenance-related, authorized service interruptions
to repair failed communications equipment. In concert with the Battalion S4, they did an unprecedented job of managing,
ordering, and distributing over $12 million worth of Prescribed Load List parts across the battlefield. EMS technicians
spearheaded the first theater-wide, power management program. They quickly established a standard power baseline against
which the 14 TCFs, 60 Area Distribution Nodes, and 22 terrestrial and satellite long-haul communications terminals, the bulk
of theater communications, were assessed for compliance. They procured over $1,025,000 in uninterruptible power supplies,
backup generators, automatic transfer switches, and power distribution systems required to bring our facilities and
equipment in compliance with commercial standards. The team traveled extensively around the battlefield performing upgrades
to our facilities and equipment. All 40th ESB TCFs and long haul communications terminals now have reliable primary power
and backup power, power transfer switches and remote monitoring capability
