Charlie Company occupied Contingency Operating Base (COB) Speicher in Iraq and began improving the communications infrastructure directly supporting Multi-National Division - North customers including: 1st Armored Division and 25th Infantry Division, 111th EN BDE, 18th EN BDE, 101st BCT, TF ODIN, Charlie Company gained a reputation as the base’s communication experts and acted as the Communications Integrator for all communications projects on site.
In a matter of months, the company connected 16 unit buildings to the fiber optic cable network to complete 335th TSC’s two year commercialization project. This effort included digging and backfilling over 8,000 feet of trench, installing over 40,000 feet of conduit, and pulling over 19,000 feet of cable to meet commercial standards. The company also connected 10 other unit buildings to the fiber network, as well as provided Quality Assurance to tenant units for several “self-help” communications projects. They have also completed the two year project of installing a new Medium Technical Control Facility at Speicher, and a new Deployable KU Band Earth Terminal (DKET) bringing an additional 16 MB of bandwidth to the base. They have done much to posture their follow-on unit for success on COB Speicher to include obtaining new cable office facilities and a new cable yard, as well as obtaining two cable warehouses.
