The first major project on Bagram for the 40th ESB personnel was the Cable Platoon’s communication closet upgrade mission which involved upgrading old 2950 model Cisco switches with newer 3750 model Cisco switches. The project also included changing the Cat5 color code which involved running new cable for NIPR and CENTRIXS. Of the 102 communications closets on Bagram Airfield, the Cable Platoon successfully upgraded 22 major closets during 2008.
The Super Technical Control Facility at Bagram experienced a hazardous condition status during the summer months of 2008 due to poor HVAC ducting which caused the current HVACs to freeze over. Considering future expansion of the STCF, the Field Engineering Team (FET) assisted the DSST personnel in developing and executing a plan to re-design the air conditioning system. 40th ESB personnel attached to the 580th Signal Company assisted in purchasing new air conditioning units to provide an additional 60 tons of cooling for the facility. In December 2008, 40th ESB personnel attached to the 580th Signal Company coordinated with the FET in order to complete the re-ducting in the STCF ceiling and establish concrete pads for the new air conditioning units. 40th ESB personnel attached to the 580th Signal Company also managed the commercialization of FOB Fenty, Salerno, and Sharana throughout 2008. Each of the three FOBs are moving from tactical JNNs, CPNs, or FKETs to having their own DKET and TCF at each enduring site. 40th ESB personnel were instrumental to the FOBs’ cable, DSST, and Help Desk missions.
